Getting messy with acrylic paints | Jo Boland

Jo Boland GoGo Getaway Getting Messy layout

I’m back this month using acrylic paint on my layout, inspired by a class taught by Sarah at our October GoGo Getaway retreat. Here’s Sarah’s class layout…

I squeezed dots of different acrylic paint across my cardstock, see below. I used Bazzill Basics Marshmallow cardstock which is designed for mixed media work.

Next time I would try using longer ‘dashes’ of paint, with maybe add white in between each colour, but I was running very low on white acrylic paint this time round. I then spread the paint with a palette knife, straight up and straight down. I added a little more white on top to brighten the effect. Once dry I added splatters of gold Heidi Swapp Colour Shine, love how this lifts the layout and adds that fabulous shimmer.

When everything was dry I added my photo on a matt of tissue paper and a piece of super old Basic Grey paper from my scrap basket (I loved this Lollipop Shoppe collection, my first ever collection purchased). I positioned letter stickers for my title and ran it all through my sewing machine to add texture and to also make sure the letter stickers won’t fall off, they don’t always adhere so well on mixed media backgrounds.

Finally I added embellishments from the Paige Evans Whimsical collections, some Amy Tangerine washi tape and my journaling. I used foam pads to lift the edges of the paintbox up, gluing the central hinge flat on the cardstock.
