Hi – Essie here with a layout inspired by paper piecing, a technique taught by Lorraine at our fabulous birthday celebration event in June earlier this year. I’ve always loved this technique and for this layout I thought I’d take it a step further by using mixed media on my paper pieces rather than using patterned paper. As we’re approaching the autumn I’ve used a gorgeous photo of my Gt nieces and Nephew at last yrs pumpkin photo shoot (photo by Sugar and Spice).
I started by drawing a pumpkin and decorating with ink sprays, once that once was dry I added Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint and Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Coral Calypso to add texture. Once all that was dry I cut the pumpkin into pieces and then drew around it on my white cardstock. After poking holes I hand stitched along the lines of my pumpkin shape.
I then trimmed each piece of mixed media pumpkin down a little so that they fitted slightly inside my stitched lines and put the rest of my page together with patterned papers and embellishments.
I would love to see your pages if you have a go at this fab technique – you can share with us over on our facebook page and don’t forget our monthly challenge – The post will be pinned to the top of the GoGo Getaway facebook page for the whole month. The randomly chosen winner will receive 1000 Magpie points (worth £10) to spend in the Hey Little Magpie shop. All entries from our challenges will go into a ‘hat’ for the grand prize draw at the end of the year for a chance to win a place at the October 2019 GoGo Getaway retreat worth £380!
