Paper Piecing – Quilt Inspired

Happy June everyone, Louise here with a layout I created using the lovely Nancy’s, Paper Pieced, Quilt Inspired Layout from GoGO DayAway Ipswich at the end of February.

Every tear I try and do an “age” layout for my birthday, so this is 2018’s contribution.

I concentrated solely on the paper piecing aspect and omitted the stitching. Its a great way to use up lots of your small bits of patterned paper. I cut out the 2 inch squares with a trimmer, then used a punch for the smaller squares they are almost 1.5 inches square.

Obviously you can see I stuck to a limited colour palette, but this would look impressive using a rainbow of colours, remember small patterns work best for this technique.

Once the two sizes of square were adhered centrally on top of each other, slice them in half diagonally then pinch out the centre , I used the corner of the square punch.

When arranging them on the layout go for a rigid geometric format, I left it incomplete as I do like my “white space” but you could create a visually stunning background using this formula. I “prettied” it up and softened the overall look with a curvy script title and some floral embellishments, a few enamel X’s help to give that impression of the pattern “fading out” towards the edges.

Here’s hoping you feel inspired to “have a go” Happy Scrapping, stay cool xox
