Thali | Using coffee filter elements

So I’m just back from another fantastic GoGo Getaway weekend down at Theobalds Park Hotel. I love these events as its amazing to meet up with so many scrappers in real life rather than just online.

This month the technique I’m revisiting is the use of coffee filters to create elements for your scrapbook page. This was taught as part of Niki’s class at GoGo Getaway in November at Haydock.

I sprayed the coffee filter with Distress Spray Stains in Picked Raspberry, Mermaid Lagoon and Seedless Preserves. I allowed this to dry overnight and then I sprinkled over water droplets which I blotted off with paper towel. I then added splatters of co-ordinating Heidi Swapp Colour Shine mists and also in Gold. Once completely dry I stamped images from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio ‘Bohemian Dreams’ collection using Archival black ink. Finally fussy cutting these images out to create my own embellishments. This is a great way to extend your scrapbooking supplies.

This is a very mixed media background as I used the packaging technique with pearlescent water colours and stamping in co-ordinating Distress Ink colours as a layer underneath the Paige Evans ampersand cut file.

With such a busy layout I have used minimal embellishment, pretty much just the coffee filter elements, a few stickers and a scattering of enamel dots.

I’m really pleased with how this page has turned out. With a messy background its very difficult to envision the completed layout because it just looks like a crazy mess until you add the cut file and photos. If you are starting out with mixed media my advice is just to persevere.

Thank you for visiting the blog today. We love to see your creations so please continue to share them with us on Facebook and Instagram.

Happy Crafting!
