The Negative Effect

Niki Rowland GoGo Getaway negatives of cut file stencil

The lovely Esther taught a class recently at the GoGo Dayaway event in Ipswich called ‘Colourful Cuts & Magical Mediums’. The delegates each recieved a custom stencil which contained lots of hearts but they also recieved the hearts that were cut from it. Esther used these hearts in her layout and applied mediums over the top, then removed the hearts to reveal white cardstock underneath – such a lovely technique.

So for my take on this class, I cut a stencil of coffee stain rings on my Silhouette and kept the negative pieces. I put them into a piece of white card and then dabbed paint over the top. I then got a bit carried away with the paint and dabbed thick splodges over a lot of my background. I carefully peeled away the pieces of my stencil and this left me with white coffee rings amongst a painted background. I left the background to dry overnight becuase the paint was super-thick.

Once dry I enjoyed adding paint splatters, and applying some stamping on to the background and then I built my layout on top of all that texture – a bit messy for me but I really enjoyed doing it!

I’ve used a cut file by Paper Issues (the arrow circle) which I cut from grey card. This went well with the whole circle thing I had going on for this layout. I added various words using a Freckled Fawn alphabet and finished off with lots of embellishing and some black drops of Indian Ink.

Thanks so much for stopping by and joining me today and I hope you will give this technique a try.

Happy scrapping
