Using the Negatives revisited…

Hi again everyone! Kirei here with my take on Niki’s fab ‘Using the Negatives’ technique class from the last GoGo Getaway. This was Niki’s original layout….

So, I also decided to use a die-cut heart as I had it in my stash and had been waiting to use it…. it’s called ‘Bits & Pieces Background’ and was from the Just Nick online store. Seems like we have a bit of a theme going with die-cut hearts as Lorraine used one in her last blog post too!

Rather than leave it all white I used watercolours to paint the heart. To do this I kept the entire die-cut intact (heart outline and small inner pieces) and painted over it with three colours that matched the ‘Pretty Little Studio’ papers that I used to mount the photo…though you can’t actually see them that much in the end! I left it to dry and then removed the heart outline part of the die cut and lightly stuck it to my white cardstock background. Using sticky foam pads I attached all of the small inner pieces to the white cardstock using the heart outline as my guide. Remove the heart outline carefully when done. I added some splatters of the three colours over and around the edge of the heart.

I then added a photo which I mounted on two different patterned papers. To finish off I just went through my stash and picked out a load of little embellishments in matching colours and stuck them onto the heart pieces. My title is from the new Maggie Holmes ‘Carousel’ range.

Why don’t you give this technique a try, it’s a great way to use those bits from a die-cut that generally get thrown out, and don’t forget to post your finished layouts to the GoGo Getaway Facebook page!

Thanks for looking and happy scrapping!signaturekirei
