Colour Blocking revisited.

Hello again, Giselle here with my blog post for May. At the last GoGo Getaway Niki taught a fun class where she coloured blocked wooden embellishments with different mediums.

I wasn’t able to do the class but after checking the type of paints that were used I went shopping!  The green paint is Starlights Apple Green, which is so easy to apply and dries super fast. And for the gold I used a Wink Of Stella brush. For my layout I have colour blocked a plain white chipboard title and a wooden frame in colours that coordinate well with my photo. As both mediums dry within minutes, I didn’t have to wait long to complete my design.

To get a clean line between the two colours I used a strip of low tack masking tape which I removed when each colour medium had dried, so no worries about the lines being straight! I really like the effect and that embellishments can be altered to match the colour scheme of a layout. I also really like how the painted frame has highlighted the subject of photograph.

The same effect can be made using other mediums such as Gouache or acrylic paint, glitter glue & permanent ink felt pens to name a few. You could also use Washi tape for  an even different look – a great way to use up all those rolls of Washi tapes that we all fell for in a big way!

I hope you give this technique a try as it’s simple to do and adds another relatively easy element to your scrapbook layouts.

See you next month, until then, happy scrapping!
